Kent Meningitis Outbreak

We understand that recent news reports about the meningitis outbreak in Kent may be concerning for parents and staff working with children and young people. Advice from UKHSA is that there is no baseline increased risk outside of the specific outbreak in Kent at this time and currently there is no need for any additional actions beyond routine good practice.

This includes reminding parents of the importance of keeping routine vaccinations up to date, including the MenACWY vaccine where applicable. The full UK routine schedule is available here: Complete routine immunisation schedule from 1 January 2026 – GOV.UK

Elm Hayes Surgery is experiencing a higher number of calls from families asking to book for the Meningitis B vaccine for their older children, unfortunately, we are unable to administer this vaccine.  We advise you to contact large pharmacy chains or travel clinics where you may be able to obtain the vaccine privately.
